Change the site search settings

  1. Use the Settings (looks like a cog/gear) near the Publish button.

  2. Choose the Navigation option.

  3. In Search settings (Google Workspace Business and Enterprise only) choose from:

    • This site - search only this site and nothing else;

    • Organisation content - search for anything you have access to with your Google Workspace Business or Enterprise account (e.g. search Google Drive, Gmail, Groups, Calendar etc);

    • Hide - hide the search option - be aware that if someone visits the search URL search will still work: the search option is only hidden.

  4. Close the Settings dialogue box.

  5. Use the Publish button to make available the chosen search option on the live site.

Insert the Cloud Search gadget

  1. Open your site in the new Google Sites editor

  2. From the Insert panel use the Cloud Search option

  3. Publish your site to display the Cloud Search gadget live on the published site.

Notes

  • Cloud Search is only available for Google Workspace Business, Enterprise and Enterprise for Education.

  • If you enable the Cloud Search option or insert the Cloud Search gadget the results returned are for what the user can access anywhere within Google Workspace, not just what's on the site.

  • The ability to hide search is only available for Google Workspace Business, Enterprise and Enterprise for Education.

  • If you hide the search option IT IS ONLY HIDDEN - visiting the search URL will still search the site.
