Classic Google Sites Migration and Feature Expectations

Google have provided a more detailed picture of when migration will take place and what needs to happen for migration to be a success (An update on the classic Google Sites deprecation timeline). The important take away from this is Google lists the features you can expect to see in new Google Sites:

  • Site search
  • Limit who can access a published site
  • Something similar to page-level permissions
  • Embed URLs and code
  • Site update notifications
  • More levels of page nesting
  • Corporate themes
  • More text formatting options
  • Domain web address mapping
  • API capabilities

These will all be introduced before classic Sites gets deprecated and when deprecation does occur you will have one year of full operation and then three months of read-only access. This will take place after migration trials have begun to ensure the migration happens smoothly.
