Google has enhanced the file management experience in Google Chat with the introduction of the Shared tab in 1:1 direct messages and group messages. This feature was initially rolled out in Google Chat spaces earlier this year, and it now allows users to easily access and manage conversation-related files, links, and media across all chat types.
How it Benefits Users:
The Shared tab provides a centralized and streamlined method to view all shared content within a conversation, making collaboration easier. Users can now sort through shared documents by file type (files, links, media) or by the date they were shared, using the new sort drop-down menu.
Key Details:
Available on the web, Android, and iOS platforms with a gradual rollout starting in September.
No admin control is required for this feature.
Users will see the Chat and Shared tabs at the top of each conversation. Clicking on the Shared tab will display all shared content in three sections: Files, Links, and Media.
This feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and personal Google account users.
