Easily Access and Sort Shared Files in Google Chat Conversations

Google has enhanced the file management experience in Google Chat with the introduction of the Shared tab in 1:1 direct messages and group messages. This feature was initially rolled out in Google Chat spaces earlier this year, and it now allows users to easily access and manage conversation-related files, links, and media across all chat types.

How it Benefits Users:

The Shared tab provides a centralized and streamlined method to view all shared content within a conversation, making collaboration easier. Users can now sort through shared documents by file type (files, links, media) or by the date they were shared, using the new sort drop-down menu.

Key Details:

• Available on the web, Android, and iOS platforms with a gradual rollout starting in September.

• No admin control is required for this feature.

• Users will see the Chat and Shared tabs at the top of each conversation. Clicking on the Shared tab will display all shared content in three sections: Files, Links, and Media.

• This feature is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and personal Google account users.
