Flowchart showing the setup and installation steps for Instant People Directory
By default, Instant People Directory runs on Google Cloud infrastructure, which means your data benefits from Google’s global security standards. However, if your compliance team requires absolute control (e.g., healthcare or finance), Steegle. One ensures data never leaves your Workspace domain. This distinction helps organizations decide whether the Marketplace version is sufficient or if the Enterprise option is necessary.
These permissions allow the app to read and reflect organizational changes in real time. For example, if HR updates a job title or adds a custom field like “certifications,” the directory updates instantly without manual syncing. The scope is broad because it covers both standard and custom fields, but it’s limited to directory data only.
The 90-day retention period is designed as a safety net. If an admin accidentally removes the app, reinstalling within that window restores the directory without rebuilding settings. If your policy requires immediate removal, you can override this by submitting a deletion request, which is processed within 72 hours.
Large organizations often face performance issues with static org charts. Instant People Directory avoids this by filtering by Organizational Units and loading data dynamically. This means even if you have thousands of employees, users only see relevant slices of the org chart, keeping navigation fast and manageable.

Standard branding covers colors and layout, but logos, custom fields, and advanced design elements require Enterprise plans. In practice, this means the Marketplace version will look “on brand” but may still carry subtle Steegle styling, while Enterprise can be indistinguishable from an in-house solution.
Beyond Google’s Marketplace review, Steegle is registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and adheres to GDPR. This dual oversight means the app is vetted both by Google’s technical standards and by regulatory compliance frameworks, giving admins confidence in its legitimacy.
Support is available through Steegle’s portal and direct email. Importantly, because Steegle acts as a Data Processor, they can only act on instructions from your organization’s Data Controller. This means escalation paths are clear: admins initiate requests, and Steegle executes them within agreed compliance boundaries.

While update frequency isn’t specified, Steegle has been a Google Cloud Partner since 2008 and maintains long-term Workspace solutions. Practically, this means updates are tied to Google Workspace changes, when Google introduces new directory fields or APIs, Steegle adapts the app to stay compatible.
